The Curtiss F9-C "Sparrowhawk" was designed for use as a reconnaissaince aircraft. It was known as "The Flying Trapeze" because it was launched from and recovered by the U.S. Navy Airships Akron and Macon. Six Sparrowhawks were built in 1932. “Shamrock Special” was a B-17F-60-BO 42-29591 of the 401st BS, 91st BG. After being damaged in a ground collision with another Fort, it received a new rear fuselage. It carried 3 separate pin-ups, one on either side of the nose, and a more impressive lass, painted by Jack Gaffney, on the tail. It was returned to the USA in mid-1944. 20" x 10" acrylic

Major Frederick "Boots" Blesse was a USAF Korean War ace, and the author of the air-to-air tactics manual "No Guts, No Glory!" A primary dogfighting tactic, the rolling scissors, is demonstated in this painting, as Blesse begins to roll right, over the top of the left-turning Mig, a maneuver which will put him at the Mig's 6 o'clock.
